Presentation booklet "Miras Moldova" public association in Russian language
Who We Are

The mission of the Miras-Moldova public association is to address social concerns in the Gagauzian autonomy.

Miras-Moldova works to raise awareness of the Gagauzian culture, encourage social integration of ethnic minorities into Moldovan society and to save the cultural heritage of the Moldovan population.

Miras-Moldova also supports families of disabled youth from surrounding communities. Volunteers from the public administration work with individuals with a range of disabilities including physical, sensory, mental and learning disabilities.

To achieve these goals, Miras-Moldova focuses its activities in the following areas:

Preserving and Promoting the Gagauzian Culture:

  • To develop and preserve progressive practices in modern-day Gagauzian culture and facilitate cultural exchange between Gagauzian citizens and foreign volunteers.
  • To research and promote knowledge of past and present cultures of Gagauzia.
  • To preserve and support a respectful interethnic climate in Gagauzia. Reports on interethnic relationships within Gagauzia as well as collaboration between Gagauzian and Moldovan youth will foster intercultural understanding amongst citizens of differing ethnic backgrounds.
  • The formation of tolerant relations between the ethnic majority of Moldova and the cultures of ethnic minorities in Gagauzia.

Encouraging Development of Gagauzian Youth:

  • To facilitate the socialization of Gagauzian youth and to expose the new generation to patriotic values in the spirit of internationalism and respect for the cultural legacy of the Gagauzian people.
  • To promote respect amongst Gagauzian youth for the traditions and languages of all ethnic minorities in the Republic of Moldova.
  • To raise awareness of traditional ethnic and universal values and assist with the formation of national and regional identities in youth. Projects will reinforce the cultural values of youth, motivate them to learn traditional activities and inspire them to represent their culture.
  • To create conditions for the self-determination and self-realization of the Gagauzian youth by promoting the development of national and social identities. Youth will be provided with opportunities to participate in clubs and cultural activities and develop confidence in their values.
  • To introduce youth to foreign volunteers in the spirit of cross-cultural exchange.

Providing Services to Families of Youth with Disabilities:

  • To provide services to disabled individuals, including home-based services, foreign language education, computer skills, handcraft workshops and cuisine clubs.
  • To coordinate life-enriching activities to enhance the standard of living for individuals receiving services. Activities are otherwise inaccessible for participants and all expenses are paid.
  • To support disabled individuals seeking volunteering and job opportunities.
  • To illuminate the experiences of families of disabled youth to decrease stereotypes and stigmas and to support their integration into society.

Current Projects of Miras-Moldova include:

  1. European Reporters Volunteers write reports to highlight the life experiences of individuals in the Gagauz community. A recent initiative is the Humans of Gagauzia blog, a forum to highlight cultural life in the autonomous region
  2. Volunteering with Youth with Disabilities  Volunteers work with local disabled youth at the "Fidanjik" Rehabilitation Center and also perform home visits with youth who are unable to attend activities at the Center.
  3. Language Clubs Language clubs are offered for interested community members. Current language clubs include the English, French and Spanish languages
  4. English Movie Club Volunteers show English-language videos every Friday. After the viewing, club participants discuss the movie
